About Me
Biography
I am a classically trained visual artist whose work bridges the monumental traditions of Russian academic art with the expressive freedom of contemporary painting. My creative journey spans mosaics, architectural murals, and easel painting — each discipline informing the others with a deep understanding of composition, colour, and spatial harmony.
Born in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), Russia, I discovered my calling early. I pursued formal training at the Sverdlovsk Art College named after I.D. Shadr, one of the oldest and most respected art institutions in the Ural-Siberian region, graduating from the monumental art stream — a rigorous programme focused on large-scale composition, fresco, mosaic, and stained-glass techniques.
I continued my education at the Ural State Academy of Architecture and Arts (USAAA), where I deepened my mastery of architectural art forms. The academy’s integrated approach — combining fine arts with architectural thinking — gave me a rare ability to see paintings not just as images on a surface, but as dialogues with the spaces they inhabit.
Professional Experience
Over two decades of professional practice, I have worked across a broad spectrum of media and scales:
- Monumental mosaics — from private commissions to public spaces, using smalt, marble, and hand-cut stone
- Architectural murals — large-scale interior and exterior painted compositions, executed in acrylic, oil, and mixed media
- Easel painting — original works in oil and acrylic, spanning landscapes, abstract compositions, and figurative studies
My style is characterised by a restrained yet luminous palette, deliberate composition, and a quiet emotional depth that invites the viewer to linger. Every piece reflects the academic rigour of my training, tempered by a personal sensitivity to light, texture, and atmosphere.
Current Practice
Since 2014, I have been based in Sydney, Australia, where I continue to create and exhibit my work. The Australian landscape — its unique light, colour, and vastness — has become a new source of inspiration, subtly influencing my recent pieces while the foundations of my Russian academic training remain firmly in place.
My work is held in private collections across Australia, Europe, and Russia.
Artist’s Statement
I believe a painting should feel lived in — not just seen. My training taught me that every stroke carries intent, that composition is a form of hospitality, and that colour speaks before words do. Whether I am working on a mural the size of a wall or a canvas small enough to hold in your hands, I am always searching for that moment when technique becomes invisible and only feeling remains.
